ABOUT TEDDY

The Candidacy House of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus, otherwise known as "Arvisu House Jesuit Candidacy" is named after Fr. Teodoro "Teddy" Arvisu, SJ.

Fr. Teddy was a Filipino Jesuit soldier during World War II. He ran away from home three times to to follow his vocation to become a Jesuit priest. He even had to fight for his vocation in court, in a lawsuit raised by no less than his parents! He graduated Summa Cum Laude when he secured his AB degree from the Ateneo de Manila University. Fr. Teddy died on March 19, 1957 due to a brain tumor.

Most of the younger generation of Filipino Jesuits have gone through the Jesuit Candidacy program in Arvisu House, where Jesuit candidates are given the structures and the tools to properly discern the possibility of a religious vocation, in particular as a Jesuit.

This blog is an attempt to chronicle the "movements" in the life of one of the candidates for School Year 2019-2020 during his stay in Arvisu House. It contains reflections, letters, prayers, and other forms of expression (e.g., photographs, journals, etc.) that he wishes to share with the rest of the world as he undergoes his vocation discernment journey -- with the hope that somehow, these works too can inspire people and bring them closer to God.
